Agenda for Tuesday:
1. Begin Chapter 6 "Learning: Classical Conditioning."
2. Use the PsychTrek CD to understand Classical Conditioning - looking at Pavlov's experiment.
3. Notes for Chapter 6 - Classical Conditioning

Agenda for Thursday:
1. Finish Classical Conditioning and compare it to Operant Conditioning. Notes on Operant Conditioning.
2. PsycTrek 3 CD on Operant and Observational Conditioning.
3. Last 20 minutes - Quiz on Chapter 6
4. Review Chapter 5 and 6 if time after our discussion. Prepare for the Test on Friday.

Extra Credit Essays - answers the questions on a separate sheet of paper. Each question that is answered correctly and as fully as possible can get up to 5% points added to their test score.

I.Explain how a specific phobia could be acquired through classical conditioning, being sure to identify the unconditioned stimulus, unconditioned response, conditioned stimulus, and conditioned response in your example. Also, using classical conditioning, indicate how the phobia could be eliminated.

II.Provide specific, everyday examples (for instance, from child-rearing) of the following operant-conditioning phenomena: positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, and punishment.

III.Briefly describe observational learning, and explain how it relates to classical and operant conditioning.

IV.Describe a typical night’s sleep for a human being. What happens when we fall asleep each night? What do people tend to dream about, and what theories have been proposed to explain why people dream at all?
