Summer Reading

Great news for 2018-2019 school year. We have a full 4 AP Psychology classes for the upcoming school year. It's been a couple of years since that has happened. AP Psych at AHS grows on word of mouth only. I do not advertise or push students to sign up for it. It is wonderful to see the interest grow.

There is no doubt that AP Psych is a class where students can definitely earn college credit. But there is also strong evidence that the chance of scoring the highest score of 5 is higher than any other AP class at AHS.

We had 12 scores of 5 last year and I predict more will have a FIVE this year. :)

I am looking forward to learning with you in the coming school year.

Complete list of all Social Studies AP/Dual Credit Summer Reading (as linked to on the AHS website all summer)

This summer AP Psychology students should read:

Students can find information to help them as they read the book here:
AP Psychology Summer Reading

Duez Lecture & Introduction to 50 Great Myths of Popular Psychology

Notes - 50 Great Myths - Summer Presentation

There will be a quiz and test over the book during the first two weeks that we return from summer. This book is a fantastic introduction to psychology because it tackles many of the common misconceptions about psychology. If you have heard that it is easy because it is all "common sense" -- well, you heard wrong. However, because psychology runs counter to many of the assumptions we hold about human behavior, the class is endless interesting as a result.

The book is easy to read because it is partitioned in a way in which students can pick it up and read for only a few minutes at a time and truly chip away at it. There aren't characters or a story line to concern yourself with while reading 50 Myths.

Plus, almost every single myth is actually something we will need to study and learn this year in AP Psychology. It is well worth the effort. Students who have read this book and learned it have scored much better throughout the year and on the day of the AP Exam.

Mock Test #2 - High Scores

Good job. Hang in there. Keep working on figuring out the things you are not certain about. Even a score of a 50% at this point is OK. Improve it by 10-15% by test day and you are good. Also remember that each point on the FRQ is important. Don't take them for granted. You have to prove you understand it.

Very proud of the work you have done this year. It has been a challenging year, but you have risen to meet it. I still believe this will be our finest year when the test results roll in during the month of July.

Mock Test #1 - 2018 Spring

Great job on the first Mock Test this spring.

Mock Test #1 was the day after our test over the last two chapters. So, you didn't really get much time to study for it. We have been working on corrections and I'm hopeful to see some improvement on the next Mock Test on Thursday.

Compared to the Fall Semester Mock test, this was incredible!
You guys scored higher over a full year than you did for only the material over the first semester. Impressive!

These are great scores on the Multiple Choice. Way to go!
