Agenda for the week of October 24, 2011 through October 28, 2011
Learning Targets:
  • Models of LTM deal with how we organize information that we need to know.
  • Problem solving involves applying what we know in an organized way to issues that we face.
  • Language is a complex system of communication that allows us to use complex symbols to talk about things in the past or future, not just the present.

Agenda:
1. Students will read the article, "How Friends Ruin Memory: The Social Conformity Effect." They will jot down some notes and also a question regarding the article for discussion. (15 minutes to read and notate, 10 minutes to discuss)
2. We will also discuss the videos that students watched on Friday.
3. Psychtrek 3 CD for Chapter 8 - Language, Thought, and Cognition.

1. DO NOW Question: "Curious blue ideas sleep furiously" is a famous statement by a linguist to argue that sentences can be proper but still make no sense. At what level is this sentence ambiguous?
2. Notes on Language and Thought, Chapter 8.
3. Reading Check Quiz, Chapter 7 & 8. (with 15 minutes left in class) If time we will go over the questions before we leave.
